Internship Reflection
End of Semester/Internship Reflection
Going into this internship, my experience was mostly on the clinical side, so I didn’t have much exposure to what happens behind the scenes. This opportunity allowed me to see the day to day responsibilities of managers and leaders I’ve worked with for a long time, which gave me a completely different perspective on how healthcare operates. Being in a larger community like Westminster Village showed me how many moving parts it takes to keep everything running smoothly. Working with different departments and being involved in tasks like audits, organization, and daily operations helped me understand how important communication and teamwork are in providing quality care.
Overall, this experience helped me grow professionally and step outside of my comfort zone. It made me realize how important strong leadership is in healthcare and gave me a clearer idea of the kind of leader I want to become
Weekly Reflections
Each week, I attended morning meetings with managers and transition meetings with directors. I would bring my notebook and write things down as they were talking, especially anything I didn’t understand, and then ask my manager about it after the meeting. These meetings helped me see how teams communicate and keep everything running day to day, and gave me a better understanding of the operational side of healthcare and leadership behind the scenes.
